Atlanta Library & Museum – Atlanta, Illinois
Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places the Atlanta Public Library was built in 1908 with a style of architecture based on the Neo-Classic design of the 1840s with high ceilings and a domed rotunda.

There’s a classic clock tower next to the Public Library and Museum too. The clock mechanism is a 1909 vintage Seth Thomas. Originally this was the Atlanta High School clock. Now it has been moved and preserved for future generations to enjoy next to the museum. The clock must be hand cranked every 8 days.

  1. Rodger McDaniel says:

I am researching a book about Lester C. Hunt. He is a former Wyoming Governor and US Senator who was born in Isabel, IL in 1892 and went to high school in Atlanta around 1902. I am looking for anyone who has any information about Mr. Hunt’s life in Illinois. He played baseball there and was recruited to come to Lander, Wyoming about 1912. If you have family information, school records, newpapers articles, anything…I would be grateful. My email is rodger.mcdaniel@bresnan.net. Thanks. Rodger

  2. My biography of Atlanta native Lester C. Hunt has been released. “Dying for the Sins of Joe McCarthy-The Suicide of Wyoming Senator Lester Hunt” is now available on the above website or through amazon.com. Hunt’s early life in Atlanta is detailed in the book because it was central to the good and decent public servant he became. I hope people in Atlanta will read his extraordinary life story.
