Coronado Theatre – Rockford, Illinois

The Coronado Theater in Rockford, Illinois was built in 1927 as a movie theater. It is now used for live concerts, national touring shows and performances by the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.

The the theater design incorporates gilded Spanish castles, Italian villas, Chinese dragons in relief and a faux starry sky. 

The theater history includes such performers and headliners as Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr., John Kennedy, Liberace and Soldiers from nearby Camp Grant used the Coronado to stage a musical revue/war bond rally titled "We’re Tellin’ You." The original musical production, involving 125 enlisted men and WAACs, was featured later in Life Magazine and helped raise $175,000 for the war effort.
